What is one of the most expensive things that you've ever bought?

Robert Fenneman

I am not know for buying anything unnecessarily. The one thing I bought that people thought I was being foolish for was a small 130 acre farm. I paid $500 an acre for it which was unheard of in 1968. I found out in later years that some neighbors had bets on when I would go bankrupt. Had earlier purchased some land west of Packard Elevator for $200 an acre. It was not the best soil. I sold that for profit of $150 per acre and used that money to help with buying the better land. It had a small and not very nice house which we rented out. Sadly the people who rented it never paid us any rent and we had to get an attorney to get them evicted. We felt bad for the Mom and her kids so let them live there another month. The rent at that time was $40 a month. Our second renters asked for some changes that we told them we wouldn’t do. They proceeded to hire it done and charged it to us. The lesson we learned was that we didn’t like renters!! Shortly after that Hugo Senne and his wife Ruth offered to buy 10 acres from us. We were very happy to sell to them. They were a very nice couple and we got along well with them.
