Were you involved in any organizations in high school?

Joyce Fenneman

When I was in high school there weren’t very many organizations to be involved in. I was terrible at sports so never did any of them. My one sports experience in PE was throwing my bat after hitting the ball and the bat hit a girl. She had to have a couple of stitches. According to my annual I was in a teen age driving club along with most of my classmates. Have no idea what the club really did? Certainly wasn’t anything very important. Even though I can’t sing I was an alto in the school chorus for a couple of years. Basically, so that I could be with my friend and go on the trips to contests in other towns. I’m certain I never sang very loud, or I would have been thrown out. Do remember that at one contest they were having a dance in the gym when you weren’t competing. Spent the afternoon dancing with Roger Heise. He wanted to date my friend Kay so I’m sure he was trying to get me to put in a good word for him. It was a fun day. I was also in speech. My speech was about a crazy person and wallpaper. That’s all I remember of it now. I knew it forward and backwards but the day of the contest my classmate Ronnie Miller was on stage before me, and he ended up passing out on stage. Now it was my turn. Guess what, a horrible memory. I forgot every word. Teacher gave me a line, but I ran off stage crying. I’ve always blamed it on Ronnie. We got to go to a second contest and Ronnie did the same thing just ahead of me again. But at least this time I did my speech. Didn’t get a one rating for sure. I was also in class plays for two years but never with a very important part. It was lots of fun going to practice and being with friends. My Dad wouldn’t let me date, but I rode to practice with a neighbor girl and her dad. Her Dad would always let Bob drive me home and he never told my dad. He would remind me of that long after Bob and I were married. I was on student council in my junior year and class treasurer in my senior year. Another good memory was that Bob Harris and I got to lead the senior class in for their graduation ceremony when I was a junior. Got to wear my prom dress for that.
