Our Son Scott

Robert Fenneman

Scott was born December 3rd, 1966 at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo, Iowa. We went to the Dr.’s office on the 2nd because Bob wasn’t feeling well. While there Dr. McKeen examined Joyce too. Since Our baby was already two weeks overdue and very large he suggested that we go to Allen rather Waverly and that they do X-ray to determine if we were going to have twins. While there they decided to start labor. This, of course, involved needles and since I don’t do well with needles I ended up fainting and being put in a bed in a different room. The next day a lady down the hall said she couldn’t figure out why people were telling a pregnant woman to “Sit on the floor”. I didn’t sit I fell. I caused more problems than Joyce. Later, the Dr. asked me to go next door to a restaurant and eat with him while we waited. Don’t know why Joyce informed us we could go but not both at the same time. Scott was born the next morning on the third. This was one day after our 10th wedding anniversary. Best gift ever. He weighed 10 pounds and 5 ounces and had lots of hair. When we got to see him they had combed his hair into a curl on top. We spent lots of nights sitting up with him because he tended to choke . The doctor said that happened often with larger babies. As a baby Scott didn’t like to sleep and we had lots of crying before he would finally give up. He would fall asleep standing up in the car because he was afraid if he sat down he would sleep. Over the years we have had many people tell us what a great guy he is. Scott married Joyce Johnson Landers. Her daughters are Lindsay and Mandy. They are definitely his daughters too! We worried that they wouldn’t accept him. But, we worried for nothing. Scott worked for Herman Freese driving semi and later bought his own semi and continued to haul for Herman. He wanted to be home more so took a job as maintenance help at the Dumont nursing home. He is good at repair jobs and has done lots of remodeling work on his own home. He now has seven grandkids that call him Papa.
