My Dad was a hard working farmer. He was always pleasant and friendly with everyone. He made sure we always went to church on Sundays and were well behaved while we were there. We were never really disciplined harshly but just knew by a look from Dad when we were pushing his limits. We were always expected to do the right thing. We learned at an early age how to do the farm chores and field work. I remember discussions about life when we were working together in the barn. He taught us to respect women by the way he treated our Mother. Because of farm chores I didn’t go out for sports in high school as a freshman but the basketball coach came to the farm to talk to Dad to see if I could play. He consented and after that he came to watch whenever he could. He got me a Cushman scooter to ride to school for practice. We always knew he cared about us but wasn’t one for showing it. A trait that rubbed off on me.
