Growing up my neighborhood consisted of country farms. Our neighbors were our friends and even some were relatives. People would visit one another in the evenings and work together when the work required help. Glenn and Marnie Harris lived closest to us and were good friends of my parents. Their five children were close in age to the three of us. We would get together to play. Our country school was about a mile away and we would walk there together. I remember giving Bob Harris rides on my Cushman scooter for sports when we were in high school. We continued to have potluck picnic with their family even after we were all married. Flood creek was behind our farm. We would occasionally wade in it. Laura Edeker, my Dad’s sister and her husband Harry live not far away. They had a ball diamond on their farm and we would go for visits and play ball with our cousins Darrell, Dale and Francis. Roy and Thelma Fenneman were also neighbors. We would get together with their family and play cards and games.
