While I was in college at Iowa State in Ames I joined the ROTC program. The Reserve Officers Training Corp. I went to meeting while in college. When no longer in school I went to meeting in Waterloo at night twice a month and camp two weeks every summer. I was the company clerk. We also had other military training mostly while at summer camp. I was supposed to go for six months of active duty but was never called for that. At that time you could be drafted into the service if you were needed. I was in the reserves for six years and was never called to active duty. Shortly after I was discharged my unit was called for six months of training in Arizona. When they honor veterans I never feel that I deserve to be honored since I never went beyond Camp McCoy in Wisconsin.
